After several years of bad harvests due to weather conditions coincident to big oscillations of traditional products in the market, the “UCA Tierra y Agua” initiated a process of research of new products. One of the first to be promoted was the apiculture.
The honey was considered as a product with great potential as there is plenty of flowering in the area, and it is compatible with other traditional agricultural productions as well as with the preservation of the environment for its adequate development.
Currently we produce honey in 4 cooperatives in the UCA. Since 2003 the UCA Tierra y Agua is partner of the Apiculture National Association of Nicaragua.
